2 home insurance cover ?
Hello I'm new to this and looking for some advise i've just found out that i have 2 home contents insurance running and has been running for about 2 years now. is this legal ? i changed my home contents inurance about 2 years ago but i've found out i'm still paying for the old one ? it does not help that they use people like premuim credit to collect the money so your never sure which cover you are paying for (old or new) what should i do and can i claim back payments made ?
many thanks Gilly6572
hope i posted in the correct forum
is this legal ? yes. what should i do and can i claim back payments made ? Let both providers know that you have dual insurance in error and ask them to refund one of the premiums. Also let them know which you wish to continue. it does not help that they use people like premuim credit to collect the money so your never sure which cover you are paying for Although the amounts and renewal notices would tell you.
many thanks i'll get straight on it, i'm not sure any of the providers will want to make a refund but i'll give it ago. Thanks again Gilly6572
i'm not sure any of the providers will want to make a refund but i'll give it ago. They normally do in these circumstances.
You have been dual insured - they would have split any claim in proportion (there are a few methods of calculating this). You can decide which one you want to continue/to have been covering you and ask the other to provide a refund. You will need to do this in writing so you can explain and send evidence of the dual insurance - i.e. send evidence of the other policy - certificate/letter confirming cover from the other insurer confirming cover and the dates.
some insurers will give you a refund of half of the premium (assuming cover on both policies the same) as they would have paid half the claim had there been a loss.
